Mario Khoury (left) of Beverly Package Store recently received a plaque for his participation in the Beverly Kiwanis Coin Can Program. President John Colucci (right) said that the local shop near the Monterrat train station has been a “regular supporter of the program with generous customers. We thank everyone who has tossed in their loose change for Kiwanis projects.”
Coin cans at local merchants in Beverly, Hamilton and Wenham provide the Kiwanis Club of Beverly with supplemental funds to boost its community fund. Since their inception, the collection cans have added $1473.00 to the club’s coffers. “Although individual cans are retired with $20-$30, the combined community effort really adds up,” Colucci said.
Over the past year, monies have supported the Kiwanis Bike Safety Program during Homecoming, the Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, and their annual scholarship awards.
The Kiwanis Club of Beverly sponsors many youth projects, including the Kiwanis-YMCA Basketball League and the Beverly High School Key Club. They also support the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center at the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.
There are Kiwanis clubs in more than 8000 communities around the world with a combined Kiwanis-family membership of over 500,000.
