The Kiwanis Club of Beverly, in conjunction with National Education Association’s (NEA) “Read Across America” program, recently held a Community Children’s Book Drive and a “Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast.”
There were animated book readings by Peter Berkrot and others, games organized by Fran Dichner and Cynthia Montalbano, face painting, and a quiz game. All children were given a book to take home from the Beverly Kiwanis Book Drive, a drive that resulted in the donation of 350 used books and 70 new books. Extra books will be distributed to children around the city. The Kiwanis Club of Beverly thanks the Danvers Savings Bank, the Beverly National Bank, Bright Horizons and Project Child, where books were collected. Also, thanks go to green-egg cookers, Rene Gagnon, Jan from Michelle’s place, Bill Kell Sandy Baxter, and Peter Berkrot. The Kiwanis Club of Beverly sponsors many other youth projects, including the Kiwanis-YMCA Basketball League and the Beverly High School Key Club. They also support the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center at the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston. There are Kiwanis clubs in more than 8000 communities around the world with a combined Kiwanis-family membership of over 500,000.
